An all-women art event in San Francisco’s Dogpatch
Juror: Danielle Krysa
OCTOBER 25, 26 & 27, 2019
Danielle Krysa has a BFA in Visual Arts, and a post-grad in graphic design. She is the writer/curator behind the contemporary art site, The Jealous Curator (est.2009), and has curated art shows from Washington DC to Los Angeles, San Francisco to Toronto. Danielle creates her own artwork as well – mixed media collages which combine found images, paint, and as much humor as she can pack into each title. When she’s not in the studio, Danielle is writing books : “Creative Block”, “Collage”, and “Your Inner Critic Is A Big Jerk” were the first three, and her fourth book, “A Big Important Art Book - Now with Women”, was released in October of 2018. Danielle has also had the great pleasure of speaking at TEDx, PIXAR, Creative Mornings, CreativeLive, and was interviewed for several video segments on oprah.com.
We’re thrilled to announce the inaugural edition of The Ladies Room, a women-only, one room only art fair exclusively for women artists. This intimate and highly curated mini art fair will be taking place the third weekend of San Francisco Open Studios in the Dogpatch neighborhood. The Ladies Room is a juried show featuring 20 women artists, chosen from a pool of applicants by Artist, Author and The Jealous Curator, Danielle Krysa.
Following the open studios and art fair model, exhibiting artists will be present to discuss and sell their work for the duration of the event. This will be the third exhibition Jen Tough Gallery has held in this 2500 sq ft gallery space, the first two being New Lands and Wild Things, both having a large and enthusiastic turnout.
We’re limiting this art event to twenty exceptionally talented women artists, and we’re setting the bar really high on this for the best quality, and to keep the experience small and intimate.
There is no application fee for this event.
APPLICATIONS CLOSE JULY 01, 2019
WINNERS ANNOUNCED AUGUST 01, 2019
Women only. No apologies.
The Ladies Room was conceived because of the continued lack of exhibition opportunities, representation of, and support for women artists. While women have consistently been used as subject matter for male-created art, women continue to be disregarded for their artistic contributions and left out of important conversations within the art world. The Ladies Room aims to make a small difference in the male-dominated art market by offering a designated exhibition and market spaces for contemporary women artists.
